Wrinkle Smoothing

The ever-popular Botox treatment effectively smoothes out wrinkles, and refreshes the look of the face for up to 4 months. It is most often used to treat the lines on the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet that can appear around the eyes, but it is possible to use is on other parts of the face. The same Botox treatment can be used to treat excessive sweating, known as hyperhidrosis – commonly in the armpits, or on the palms - for up to 9 months.

The treatment works by injecting small amounts of what is known as  Botulinum Toxin A , (trade names include Botox, Azzalure  or  Bo-Coture ), into specific muscles on the face. This prescription-only medicine works by reducing the messages transmitted by the nerves to the specific muscle the product has been injected into. The ability of that particular muscle to contract as strongly as before is decreased, resulting in those specific wrinkles caused by movement of the face, to become reduced.

The active ingredient is a purified protein, and has been used cosmetically for over a decade. Nowadays, it is also making headlines, due to it’s multiple uses within treatment for certain medical conditions in the UK – which has been occurring for over 20 years.

Botox really can be a 'lunchtime procedure.’ It is virtually pain free, and most of the time, has no 'down time'. The effects will take a couple of days to really be seen, and will last approximately 3-4 months, although longer for some. If you have heard of someone having painful Botox treatment, or that has ended with a large amount of bruising, it is most likely that the treatment has not been carried out correctly!  Only the finest and sharpest needles are used, and are changed frequently to reduce discomfort and trauma. At Aesthetic Nursing Services, skin is cleansed, and then after assessment of the muscles, they are marked with a white pencil. The Botox injections are tiny and leave virtually no mark on the skin.

Botox aftercare is simple, and the advice we give is no exercise or alcohol for 4-6 hours after the procedure, and to avoid bending or lying down for the same period of time. Normal activities can be resumed quite easily the next day. A small bruise is the most common side effect, but is usually smaller than the size of a 5 pence piece and resolve quickly.

Botox treatments are especially effective on areas such as the forehead, frown lines and crow’s feet. A beautifully lifted effect of the eyebrows can also be created. Additionally, Botox can be used around the mouth to soften smokers lines, along the jaw, and in the neck to perform a 'Nefertiti lift' which can give a more defined jaw line, as well as being used as a treatment for a ‘gummy smile’, by subtly downward turning the mouth.

Please note that due to prescribing regulations, treatment may not be possible on the same day as consultation. A Botox review and top up maybe needed after 2 weeks, once we see how your face has settled, and is included in the cost of the treatment.
