Skin Tag / Mole / Thread Vein / Milia Treatment

If you have skin blemishes such as skin tags, warts or thread veins, you may feel that you want them removed whether they’re in a highly visible position or just you know they’re there. Treatment is often not available through the NHS for skin conditions that are deemed ‘cosmetic’ but removing unwanted blemishes can give your confidence a powerful lift.

Advanced electrolysis – specifically Short Wave Diathermy – is a popular and highly effective treatment option for treating small skin abnormalities on your face or body. During the procedure, we conduct a small electrical current to the abnormal skin cells to gently heat and destroy them. This treatment requires little to no downtime, and minimal risks when carried out by an experienced professional. The risks of scarring are small and your unwanted blemishes will quickly improve and hopefully disappear.

Advanced Electrolysis FAQs

How does advanced electrolysis work?

You may hear people use the term ‘Advanced Cosmetic Procedures’ when talking about Advanced Electrolysis; this is the new name for treatments using either Short Wave Diathermy (High Frequency A/C) or Blend (a mixture of A/C and D/C currents).

With Short Wave Diathermy treatments, we conduct an Alternating Current (AC) of electricity into your skin using ultra fine needles. This electricity causes the water molecules in the cells around the needle to vibrate, creating heat. Eventually, this heat damages and destroys the cells the treatment is targeting.

Is advanced electrolysis safe?

Advanced electrolysis has a proven safety record when carried out by a suitably trained professional, such as Rachel Fox.

What are the side effects?

When advanced electrolysis is performed correctly by a skilled practitioner there is little to no chance of permanent scarring. However, with this treatment, you should expect that your skin may look worse post-treatment before it looks better. This is because you may experience some scabbing around the treatment area.

Although you should be able to return to your usual activities after advanced electrolysis, if the treatment area is visible, you may want to arrange the procedure for when you have a quiet couple of days to give the scabs a chance to heal.

BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT

Is there anything I should do before I come in for the treatment?

Before you decide whether advanced electrolysis is the right treatment for you, we will ask you to come into Aesthetic Nursing Services for a no-obligation consultation. During this initial appointment, we will take a full medical history and spend time with you getting to know you; we’ll also take a close look at the blemishes you would like us to treat. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions and for us to make sure that you understand all of your treatment options and have realistic expectations for the outcomes of your treatment.

DURING YOUR TREATMENT

What happens during an advanced electrolysis treatment?

We will apply an anaesthetic cream to the treatment area to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible. Once the cream has taken effect, we will touch a wire/filament – sometimes referred to as a ‘probe’ or ‘fine needle’ – against or within the skin blemish to conduct the electrical current.

AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

How long will the results last?

The results from advanced electrolysis are permanent, although if you are prone to a particularly skin condition, new blemishes may appear in the future.

Many skin lesions only need a single treatment, but if you have telangiectasia – spider/thread veins – then we may recommend a course of treatments that are well spaced out to prevent skin damage or hyperpigmentation. More resilient skin conditions may need a course of treatments.

What happens after the treatment?

When you have an advanced electrolysis treatment at Aesthetic Nursing Services, we will give you detailed aftercare instructions to help you enjoy a complication-free recovery and the best outcomes.  We may recommend that you:

  • Apply antiseptic cream after your treatment
  • Clean and protect the treatment area to avoid infection
  • Wear a high factor sunscreen while the treatment area heals
